Following the heavy rainfall that hit the several provinces of the Black Sea region on Wednesday, streets, and roads in the region overflowed with floodwater.

Thirty-four people were killed in floods in Kastamonu and another six people died in Sinop, the Interior Ministry's Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) said.

Floodwaters overwhelmed the town of Bozkurt, in Kastamonu, where one building collapsed and a second building was severely damaged.

The efforts to find and rescue missing people are reportedly still ongoing in the region.

About 950 workers in Bartin, 2,807 in Kastamonu, and 1,693 in Sinop are carrying out relief work in the affected areas, AFAD said.

Over 1,700 people were evacuated from the region, some with the help of helicopters and boats.

More than 5,000 spaces had been allocated in student dormitories to shelter those displaced by the floods.

The landslides wreaked havoc in the region areas, tearing apart chunks of soil from hills and piling up debris on streets inundated with floodwaters.
