Death toll from flash floods rises to 27 in northern Turkey
At least twenty-seven people were killed and one went missing after flooding and landslides caused by torrential rains hit Turkey's Black Sea region.
Following the heavy rainfall that hit the several provinces of the Black Sea region on Wednesday, streets, and roads in the region overflowed with floodwater.
Twenty-five people were killed in floods in Kastamonu and another two people died in Sinop, the Interior Ministry's Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) said.
Floodwaters overwhelmed the town of Bozkurt, in Kastamonu, where one building collapsed and a second building was severely damaged.
The efforts to find and rescue one missing person is reportedly still ongoing in Bartın.
Over 1,700 people were evacuated from the region, some with the help of helicopters and boats.
More than 5,000 spaces had been allocated in student dormitories to shelter those displaced by the floods.
The landslides wreaked havoc in the region areas, tearing apart chunks of soil from hills and piling up debris on streets inundated with floodwaters.
