Nigerian military kills 73 Boko Haram members in two weeks
Nigerian troops neutralized at least 73 Boko Haram fighters in operations conducted in the past two weeks in the country’s northeastern Borno State, the army said on Thursday.
“Our troops of Operation Hadin Kai have killed 73 Boko Haram members in various operations between June 18 and June 30 in Borno state," said Bernard Onyeuko, a spokesperson for the Defense Headquarters, without giving further details.
Onyeuko said that the troops also rescued 55 hostages from Boko Haram’s camps in Borno.
Boko Haram, officially known as Jamā'at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da'wah wa'l-Jihād, "Group of the People of Sunnah for Preaching and Jihad" is an armed group fighting against government forces in northeastern Nigeria, which is also active in Chad, Niger, and northern Cameroon. (ILKHA)
