HÜDA PAR: Violence against journalists is unacceptable
“It is a social responsibility to ensure the freedom of the press, as well as keeping the members of the press in a legitimate and moral circle,” HÜDA PAR (Free Cause Party) said in a statement.
Underlining that it is a necessity for both politics and the press to serve social values, contribute to the solution of problems, and adhere to general moral and spiritual values, HÜDA PAR said: “It is an indispensable requirement of both professions to stay away from inciting the society to hatred and enmity and to stay away from rent, interest, and dubious relations. On the other hand, it is unacceptable for members of the press performing public duties to be exposed to acts of violence. In this sense, it is a regrettable event that a journalist was attacked in the Dilovası district of Kocaeli. It is a social responsibility to ensure the freedom of the press, as well as keeping the members of the press in a legitimate and moral circle."
“A system in which the security forces are the source and enforcer of the law only produces chaos”
Touching upon the killing of a Turkish citizen in custody, HÜDA PAR went on to say: “While one of the most important principled promises that brought the current government to power in 2002 was zero tolerance for torture, the fact that the police and guards have been on the agenda with ill-treatment in recent years raises concerns that this philosophy has changed. Images of a citizen who lost his life in the police station in the past days were shared and the allegation of violence by the police was strengthened. The fact that the authorities in the position of authority do not impose sanctions on the members of the law enforcement who commit crimes, and even encourage violence, making excuses for their crimes and acquittal by judicial decisions have a serious effect on the increase in law enforcement violence.”
“Law enforcement is actually the guardian of the justice mechanism. The duty of law enforcement is to fulfill the duties given by the administrative and judicial authorities within the law. As long as the law enforcement enforces its own justice and finds the freedom to do what it wants based on the power and weapon that is assumed, the peace of the citizens and the social peace will be under threat.”
“A system in which the rule of law is not properly implemented and the law enforcement is the source and implementer of law can only produce chaos. The government should protect public peace, effectively investigate the members of the law enforcement who commit crimes, dismiss them from their duties, and meticulously follow the investigation and prosecution process. It is essential for everyone to stay within the law in order to ensure social peace and security. Crossing the boundaries should never be tolerated,” HÜDA PAR concluded. (ILKHA)
