Turkey’s crop production will decrease in 2021
It was estimated that production of cereals and other crops, vegetables will decrease when compared with the previous year, the Turkish Statistical Institute said in a statement on Thursday.
In the first estimation of 2021, production quantities of cereals and other crops will decrease by 4.7%, vegetables will decrease by 0.3%, while fruits, beverage, and spices crops will increase by 7.1% when compared with the previous year.
Production quantities in 2021 were estimated approximately as follows; 67.9 million tonnes for cereals and other crops, 31.1 million tons for vegetables, and 25.3 million tons for fruits, beverage, and spices crops.
It was estimated that cereals production will decrease in 2021 when compared with the previous year
It was estimated that in 2021 cereals production will decrease with a rate of 5.5% when compared with the previous year and approximately become 35.1 million tons.
It was estimated that wheat production will decrease by 7.3% to become 19 million tons, maize production will decrease by 1.5% to become 6.4 million tons, barley production will decrease by 6% and become 7.8 million tons, rye production will decrease by 3.6% and become 285 thousand tons, oats production will increase by 6.5% and approximately become 335 thousand tons when compared with the previous year.
In the pulses group, it was expected that a decrease will occur in chickpea by 12,7% and production become 550 thousand tons, dry beans will increase by 3.8% and become 290 thousand tons, red lentil will increase by 6.6% and become 350 thousand tons and potatoes, one of the tuber crops, will decrease by 1.9% and become 5.1 million tons.
In the group of oilseeds, it was expected that soybean production will increase with a rate of 12.7% and become 175 thousand tons, sunflower will increase by 14.7% and approximately become 2.4 million tons.
It was estimated that tobacco production will increase by 5.2% and become 80.5 thousand tons, sugar beets production will decrease by 8.8% and become 21 million tons.
It was estimated that vegetables production will decrease in 2021 compared with the previous year
It was estimated that in 2021, vegetables production will decrease with a rate of 0.3% when compared with the previous year and approximately become 31.1 million tons.
When examining production of subgroups of vegetables, root and tuberous vegetables production is expected to decrease by 1%, production of vegetables cultivated for their fruits is expected to decrease by 0.4%, while in other vegetables not elsewhere classified are expected to increase with the rate of 2.3%.
The production of some important crops in vegetables; increments are expected in pepper (for processed, capia) production by 8.4%, in pepper (green) by 7.3%, in squash by 7.3% while decrements are expected as 1.5% in tomatoes, 2.6% in watermelon, 1.9% in cucumber.
It was estimated that fruits production will increase in 2021 when compared with the previous year
It was estimated that fruits, beverage and spices crops production will be 25.3 million tons in 2021 increasing by 7.1% when compared with the previous year.
When examining productions of some important fruits, it was estimated that there will be decrease in apple production by 0.9%, in grapes production by 0.2%, while will increase in peaches production by 2.7%, in cherries production by 1.8%, in strawberries production by 18.2%, in olive production by 44.3% when compared with the previous year.
In the citrus group, an increase is expected in mandarin production by 10.4%, in oranges production by 38.7%, in lemons production by 22%. From nuts, hazelnuts production is expected to increase by 5.3%, while pistachios production is expected to decrease by 66.3%.
It was estimated that figs production will not change and remain as 320 thousand tons and bananas production will increase by 11.5%. (ILKHA)
