3 people killed, 7 injured in Ghana tanker explosion
Three people, including a 2-year-old child, were killed and seven others injured in a fuel tanker explosion following a road crash in Ghana, officials confirmed late Monday.
“The tanker loaded with fuel traveling from Kumasi to Tepa skidded off the road in a sharp bend at Onyina Nofo, a community in Ghana’s southern Ashanti region,” the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) said.
The tanker exploded and burst into flames upon hitting the ground, resulting in deaths and injuries, the organization noted.
“A lot of houses have been burnt. Unfortunately, 3 lives were lost immediately with others injured,” Eric Nana Agyemang-Prempeh, the director-general of NADMO, said in a statement on his Facebook account.
“NADMO is working with local authorities to provide people who have been displaced and affected by the fires, with additional support items like blankets, mosquito nets, buckets, and other household essentials, to temporarily provide them comfort,” he added. (ILKHA)
