China: At least 21 killed due to extreme weather in mountain marathon
At least 21 people were killed after abrupt, extreme weather hit participants in a 100-km cross-country mountain marathon race in Baiyin City, northwest China's Gansu Province.
Deaths occurred when hail, freezing rain, and high winds struck during an ultramarathon, local officials said.
The runners taking part in the ultramarathon suffered from loss of temperature due to the sudden drop in air temperature.
Another 151 runners were confirmed safe, of which eight with minor injuries were treated in the hospital and in stable condition. (ILKHA)
