Lebanese Foreign Minister resigns after his comments on Gulf states
Foreign Minister Charbel Wehbe asked the president to be relieved of his duties on Wednesday, the Lebanese presidency said.
In a television interview on Monday, Wehbe claimed that Gulf states had supported the rise of ISIL, drawing outrage in the Gulf region.
After his comments, which strained ties with traditional Gulf Arab allies and donors, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Bahrain summoned Lebanon’s ambassadors and issued formal complaints. (ILKHA)
