At least 27 dead, 39 injured after Indonesia bus carrying students plunges into ravine
At least 27 people were killed and 39 others injured when a tourist bus plunged into a 20m-deep ravine on Indonesia's main island of Java after its brakes malfunctioned on Thursday.
“The bus was carrying a group of Islamic junior high school students, teachers, and parents from the West Java province town of Subang when the accident occurred late Wednesday,” Sumedang Police Chief AKBP Eko Prasetyo Robbyanto said.
The driver was among those who died in the crash. Thirteen of the survivors were being treated for serious injuries, according to local sources.
Road accidents are common in Indonesia because of poor safety standards, infrastructure, and non-roadworthy vehicles. (ILKHA)
