Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate realizes as 12.2% in Turkey
The number of unemployed persons aged 15 years old and over decreased by 1 thousand to 3 million 861 thousand persons in January 2021 in Turkey compared to the previous month, the Turkish Statistical Institute said in a statement on Wednesday.
The unemployment rate occurred as 12.2% with a 0.4 percentage point decrease, according to the statement.
Seasonally adjusted employment rate realized as 43.8%
The number of employed persons increased by 822 thousand to 27 million 706 thousand persons in the period of January 2021 compared to the previous month. The employment rate occurred as 43.8% with a 1.2 percentage point increase.
Seasonally adjusted labor force participation rate realized as 49.9%
The number of persons in the labor force realized 31 million 567 thousand persons with 821 thousand persons increase in January 2021 compared to the previous month. The labor force participation rate was 49.9% with a 1.2 percentage point increase.
The youth unemployment rate was 24.7%, the employment rate was 30.1%
The youth unemployment rate in the 15-24 age group was 24.7% with a 0.7 percentage point decrease compared to the previous month and the employment rate was 30.1% with a 0.5 percentage point increase. The labor force participation rate in this age group realized as 39.9% with a 0.2 percentage point increase compared to the previous month.
54.5% of seasonally adjusted employment was in the services sector
In January 2021, the number of agricultural employment increased by 366 thousand persons, the industry increased by 14 thousand persons, and services increased by 451 thousand persons while construction decreased by 9 thousand persons. According to the distribution of employment by sector; 18.6% was employed in agriculture, 21.1% was employed in industry, 5.8% was employed in construction and 54.5% was employed in services.
Seasonally adjusted composite measure of labor underutilization rate realized as 29.1%
In January 2021, the rate of a composite measure of labor underutilization consisting of time-related underemployment, potential labor force, and unemployment was 29.1% with a 0.7 percentage point increase compared to the previous month. While the combined rate of time-related underemployment and unemployment realized as 19.7%, the combined rate of unemployment and potential labor force realized as 22.5%.
Non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate realized as 13.4%, employment rate realized as 42.9%
The non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate realized as 13.4% with a 0.7 percentage point decrease. The number of unemployed persons decreased by 226 thousand to 4 million 194 thousand persons compared to the previous month.
The non-seasonally adjusted employment rate realized as 42.9% with a 0.6 percentage point decrease compared to the previous month. The number of employed persons estimated as 27 million 115 thousand persons with 162 thousand persons increase compared to the previous month.
The non-seasonally adjusted labor force participation rate was 49.5% with a 1.1 percentage point decrease. The number of labor force estimated as 31 million 309 thousand persons with 64 thousand persons decrease compared to the previous month.
The rate of unregistered employment in the non-agricultural sector was 16.8%
In January 2021, the rate of unregistered employment, which shows the share of employment who are not affiliated with social security institutions in total employment realized as 28.0% with a 3.6 percentage point decrease compared to the same month of the previous year. The rate of unregistered employment in the non-agricultural sector realized as 16.8% with 5.1 percentage point decrease compared to the same month of the previous year. (ILKHA)
