40 high-ranking military personnel, including the head of the General Staff Onik Gasparyan, signed Thursday morning a demand for Armenia Prime Minister Pashinyan's resignation.

Pashinyan described the move as a coup and urged his supports to take to the streets.

“I consider the statement by the General Staff to be an attempt at a military coup. I invite all our supporters to Republic Square right now. In the near future, I will address the public live,” Pashinyan said.

Pashinyan also called on his supporters to take to the streets to protest the attempt.

According to local reports, Prime Minister Pashinyan is now walking through the streets of Yerevan, moving toward Liberty Square where the former ruling Republican Party has called for a rally at 3 p.m. local time.

Pashinyan's “My Step” faction considered the military's political statement inadmissible, called it an attempt of a military coup.

“Those who are responsible for the country's security are deliberately behaving irresponsibly,” it said.

Meanwhile, Pashinyan dismissed the Head of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces Onik Gasparyan, who demanded the resignation of the government. (ILKHA)
