TurkStat: Married ones were happier than unmarried in Turkey
48.2% of Turkey was happy, said a survey by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) on Thursday.
According to the official Life Satisfaction Survey 2020, while 52.4% of individuals aged 18 and over mentioned that they were happy in 2019, the proportion was 48.2% in 2020.
The proportion of individuals who mentioned that they were unhappy was 13.1% in 2019 and 14.5% in 2020.
Females were happier
While the proportion of males who mentioned that they were happy was 47.6% in 2019, it was 43.2% in 2020. The proportion of happiness for females was 57.0% in 2019, it was 53.1% in 2020.
Married ones were happier than unmarried
It was seen that married individuals were happier than unmarried individuals. While the proportion of married individuals who mentioned that they were happy was 51.7%, this proportion was 41.3% for unmarried ones in 2020. When the level of happiness of married individuals was analyzed by sex, it was seen that 46.7% of married males and 56.8% of married females were happy.
The happiest ones were in the age group of 65 and over
When the level of happiness was analyzed by age groups, the highest level of happiness was at 65 and over age group with 58.5% in 2019 and 57.7% in 2020. The lowest level of happiness was seen at 55-64 age group with 48.7% in 2019 and it was seen at 35-44 age group with 45.4% in 2020.
Individuals who didn't complete school were happier
When the level of happiness was analyzed by the level of education, it was seen that the highest level of happiness was seen at individuals who did not complete school with 54.4% in 2020. It was followed by individuals who were primary school graduates with 50.3%, high school and equivalent graduates with 46.8%, higher education graduates with 46.1%, primary education or junior high school graduates with 44.2%, respectively.
Families were the source of happiness of individuals
When the persons as the source of happiness were analyzed in 2020; while the proportion of individuals who mentioned that their families made them happiest was 69.7%, it was followed by children with 15.0%, themselves with 4.2%, parents with 3.6%, spouse with 3.5% and grandchildren with 2.2%, respectively.
Being healthy made individuals happiest
When the values as a source of happiness were analyzed in 2020; while the proportion of individuals who mentioned that their health made them happiest was 70.9%, it was followed by love with 12.8%, success with 8.8%, money with 4.6% and job with 2.3%, respectively.
The highest level of satisfaction was in public security services with 77.4%
When the level of satisfaction from public services was analyzed in 2020; while the proportion of ones who stated that they were satisfied from the public security services was 77.4%, it was followed by satisfaction levels from transportation and health services with 72.1%, services of Social Security Institution with 63.9%, judicial services with 60.4% and education services with 56.2% respectively.
7 out of every 10 people were hopeful about their own future
The proportion of individuals who mentioned that they were hopeful about their own future was 69.6% in 2020. While the proportion of males who were hopeful about their own future was 68.5%, this proportion for females was 70.7%. (ILKHA)
