New Zealand suspends political, military ties with Myanmar following the coup
“Following the military coup, New Zealand is suspending all high-level political and military contact with Myanmar," said Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern at a post-cabinet press conference.
“In addition, we've joined with other countries calling for a special session at the United Nations Human Rights Council on Myanmar to raise concerns regarding the military could make an impact on human rights,” Ardern stated.
“I can assure you that New Zealand will continue to monitor closely the situation and Myanmar as it continues to unfold,” she noted.
She also said that a travel ban on Myanmar's military leaders would be formalized later in the week. (ILKHA)
