Zabihullah Ghayur, an army commander, was killed in a clash with the Taliban militants in the city of Tarin Kot in Uruzgan province, local sources announced on Monday.
The clash occurred when Afghan security forces were reconstructing an outpost that was damaged in a blast few days ago.
Afghan officials blamed the Taliban for the attack.
