Japarov wins landslide victory in Kyrgyzstan election
Sadır Japarov has won almost 80% of the vote in the election, according to preliminary results.
Japarov, who was sprung from his jail cell during violent riots in October against the former president and his government, will have sweeping new presidential powers following a vote to amend the constitution.
Meanwhile, the head of the Central Electoral Commission of Kyrgyzstan, Vitaly Volkov, noted that elections were transparent, except for few minor irregularities.
“Every citizen had enough opportunities for free choice. In general, the elections were open and transparent, except for a few minor irregularities,” Volkov said.
Vitaly Volkov also underlined that after visiting 627 PCEs and polling stations they were satisfied and gave high assessment of the preparation to the elections. (ILKHA)
