The Sriwijaya Air flight 182, a Boeing 737-500, plunged into the ocean minutes after takeoff on Saturday, with 62 people on board, including seven children and three babies.

“We have located the position of the black boxes, both of them,” said Soerjanto Tjahjanto, head of Indonesia’s transport safety agency.

Indonesian military chief Hadi Tjahjanto said that a naval ship sent to search for the plane that had crashed into the waters off Jakarta after a signal was received at the site of the crash.

“We received reports from the diver team that the visibility in the water is good and clear, allowing the discovery of some parts of the plane. We are sure that is the point where the plane crashed,” Tjahjanto added.

Sriwijaya Air Flight 182 was a scheduled domestic passenger flight operated by Sriwijaya Air from Soekarno–Hatta International Airport, Jakarta, to Supadio International Airport, Pontianak, Indonesia.

On 9 January 2021, the Boeing 737–524 operating the flight disappeared from radar four minutes after departure. Officials confirmed that the aircraft crashed in the waters off the Thousand Islands, some 19 km (12 mi) from the airport, plummeting rapidly in seconds. (ILKHA)
