Deadly attack targeting airport kills at least 22 people in Aden, Yemen
The explosions occurred when the members of the newly formed government arrived from neighboring Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.
Rajeh Badi, the spokesman for the new government, said that at least 22 people were killed and more than 50 injured in the attack.
Although Information Minister Muammar Al Eryani accused Houthi fighters of being behind the explosion, no group has claimed responsibility yet.
“We assure our people that all cabinet members are safe, &cowardly terrorist attack by Iran-backed Houthi militia on Aden airport will not deter us from our duty & our life isn’t more valuable than other Yemenis,”Al Eryani tweeted.
According to ACLED (Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project), over 100,000 people have been killed in Yemen, including more than 12,000 civilians, as well as estimates of more than 85,000 dead as a result of an ongoing famine due to the civil war, which began in September 2014. (ILKHA)
