Turkey’s crop production increased when compared with the previous year
Increase was occurred in the production quantities of cereals and other crops, vegetables and fruits, beverage and spices crops in 2020 with rates of 8.7%, 0.3% and 5.8% respectively, Turkish Statistical Institute said in a statement on Monday.
Production quantities of cereals and other crops, vegetables and fruits in 2020 became approximately as follows; 69.3 million tons for cereals and other crops, 31.2 million tons for vegetables, and 23.6 million tons for fruits, beverage and spices crops.
Cereals production increased in 2020 when compared with the previous year
Cereals production increased in 2020 with a rate of 8.1% when compared with the previous year and approximately became 37.2 million tons.
Wheat production increased by 7.9% to become 20.5 million tons, barley production increased by 9.2% and became 8.3 million tons, maize production increased by 8.3% and became 6.5 million tons, oats production increased by 18.7% and approximately became 314.5 thousand tons, when compared with the previous year.
In the pulses group, a decrease occurred in broad beans to consume by 8.8% and production approximately became 5 thousand tons, red lentil increased by 5.9% and approximately became 328.4 thousand tons and potatoes, one of tuber crops, increased by 4.4% and became 5.2 million tons.
In the group of oil seeds, sunflower production decreased by 1.6% and approximately became 2.1 million tons.
Tobacco production increased by 12.2% and became 76.5 thousand tons, sugar beets production increased by 16.3% and became 21 million tons.
Vegetables production increased in 2020 when compared with the previous year
Vegetables production in 2020 became 31.2 million tons with increasing rate of 0.3% when compared with the previous year.
When examining production of subgroups of vegetables, root and tuberous vegetables production increased by 0.7%, and other vegetables not elsewhere classified increased with the rate of 3.4%.
The production of some important crops in vegetables; increments became in tomatoes by 2.8%, in dry onion by 3.6%, in pepper (for processed, capia) by 4.6% while decrements became as 9.8% in watermelon, 2.9% in melon, 1.6% in cucumber.
Fruits production increased in 2020 when compared with the previous year
Fruits, beverage and spices crops production increased in 2020 with rate of 5.8% and became 23.6 million tons when compared with the previous year.
When examining productions of some important fruits, an increase occurred in apple production by 18.8%, in peaches production by 7.4%, in cherries production by 9.1%, in strawberries production by 12.3%, in pomegranates production by 7.3% when compared with the previous year.
In the citrus group, increasement became in mandarin production by 13.3%. From nuts, pistachios production increased by 248.7%.
Fig production increased by 3.2% and banana production increased by 32.8%.
Ornamental plants production decreased in 2020 when compared with the previous year
Ornamental plants production decreased by 3.5% in 2020 when compared to the previous year.
When the shares of flowers in the total ornamental plant production are examined, it was seen that total cut flowers had a share of 60.9% and other ornamental plants had a share of 39.1%.
Outdoor ornamental plants productions increased by 3.6%, respectively while cut flowers and indoor ornamental plants productions decreased by 7.7%, 6.2% when compared to the previous year. (ILKHA)
