Sağlam reminded that the 3th General Assembly Meeting of the Islamic Food Security Organization (IGGT) was held in Turkey via video conference, and said: “It has been announced that 64.5 million people in the OIC Member countries face acute hunger problem. Worldwide, more than 820 million people were reported to be undernourished. In just one year of the pandemic, 132 million people faced food shortages.”

“In the world where one third of the food produced is wasted, the immune system weakened due to malnutrition opens the door to epidemic diseases. Thousands of people die every day for these reasons. Waste, unfair distribution of income, resource exploitation and chaos are the most important causes of hunger in the world."

Sağlam underlined that the most important reason for food insufficiency and related deaths, especially in OIC member countries, is chaos that ravages the countries.

“Despite this, the OIC does not produce a solution that would strengthen the cooperation of the member countries and end the humanitarian tragedy. The Islamic Development Bank does not fulfill its mission of ‘developing underdeveloped countries’, which is also its foundation purpose,” Sağlam stated.

“In order to combat malnutrition and hunger in the world, food waste must be prevented and exploitation of resources must be prevented,” Sağlam noted, adding that, at the same time, a fair distribution of income should be ensured by preventing 'group' privilege in the economy existing in many countries.
