Coronavirus: Iran reports 8,201 new cases, 221 deaths in the last 24 hours
Iran has reported 221 new deaths from coronavirus over the past 24 hours, bringing the number of deaths from the virus to 51,949, the Health Ministry Spokeswoman Sima Lari said in her daily press conference on Saturday.
After 8,201 more people tested positive for coronavirus in the past 24 hours, the number of infections has risen to 1,100,818 in the country.
There are at least 5,739 people in intensive care units, Lari said, adding that, of those tested positive for the virus, more than 800,743 patients have been discharged from hospital after being cured.
So far, more than 6,657,974 tests have been taken across the country to detect infected cases, said the Health Ministry spokeswoman.
According to Worldometer, which is a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics, the global death toll from coronavirus has surpassed 1,603,503 with 71,536,416 cases and more than 49,737,554 recoveries. (ILKHA)
