“This team is ready to lead the world, not retreat from it. Ready to confront our adversaries, not reject our allies. And ready to stand up for our values,” Biden said.

“While this team has unmatched experience and accomplishments, they also reflect the idea that we cannot meet these challenges with all thinking and unchanged habits. For example, we're going to have the first woman lead the intelligence community, the first Latino and immigrant to lead the Department of Homeland Security and a groundbreaking Diplomat at the United Nations. We're going to have a principal on the National Security Council, whose full-time job is to fight climate change- for the first time ever that will occur. and my national security team will be coordinated by one of the youngest national security advisors in decades,” Biden added.

Biden announced Antony Blinken for Secretary of State, Alejandro Mayorkas for Secretary of Homeland Security, Avril Haines for Director of National Intelligence, Linda Thomas-Greenfield for U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Jake Sullivan as National Security Adviser, John Kerry as Special Presidential Envoy for Climate.

Their nominations will have to be approved by the United States Senate.

Joe Biden, who defeated incumbent president Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election, will be inaugurated as the 46th president on January 20, 2021. (ILKHA)
