The zionist occupation regime killed Abu al-Ata and his wife in a targeted killing, four of their children and a neighbor were also reportedly injured on November 12, 2019.

After the assassination, the clashes erupted between the zionist occupation forces and Palestinians.

Khalil Bathani became the new leader of Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement.

Al-Ata was born on 25 November 1977 in Shuja'iyya. He joined Al-Quds Brigades, an armed wing of the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine, in 1990, later becoming its head.

The zionist regime’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu described Abu al-Ata as "ticking bomb" who was planning to carry out attacks on the occupied lands.

The zionist occupation forces claimed, before his death, that Abu al-Ata commanded the PIJ's efforts in the northern region of the Gaza Strip, and was responsible for several attacks carried out against the zionist regime in 2019, such as missile strikes towards the city of Sderot in August, and against the city of Ashdod in September.

After the martyrdom of Abul al-Ata, the Islamic Jihad responded a few hours after the attack by launching over 300 rockets into zionist regime’s positions. (ILKHA)
