Turkey’s Finance Minister Berat Albayrak resigns over health reasons
Turkish Finance Minister Berat Albayrak, the son-in-law of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has resigned from his post after a slump in the lira.
He cited health reasons for his resignation, according a statement on his Instagram account.
“I decided to resign from my role as a minister after five years in office due to health reasons. I will spend my time with my parents, wife and children, whom I have neglected for many years out of necessity,”
Berat Albayrak was a member of parliament from Istanbul in the 25th, 26th and 27th legislative sessions.
He served as Minister of Energy and Natural Resources in the 64th and 65th government of Turkey. He was appointed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as the Minister of Finance and Treasury in the 66th government on 9 July 2018.
In 2004, he married the daughter of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. (ILKHA)
