Arab League: Supporting the Palestinians top priority
The Arab League stressed the importance of providing aid to the Palestinians in face of the continued Israeli blockade of the Palestinian economy and the consequences of corona pandemic.
Ahmad Abu al-Ghaith, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, delivered a speech on Thursday before the 106th session of the Economic and Social Council of the League of Arab States explaining that supporting the Palestinian economy is a top priority particularly in the light of the continuing financial crisis that the State of Palestine is going through.
He added that the brutal blockade imposed by the israeli occupation authority and its arbitrary policies aim at undermining the Palestinian economy and deprive the Palestinians of their fundamental right to development.
Regarding the corona pandemic and Arab food security, Abu al-Ghaith emphasized that the Arab countries need to think about the future to draw lessons and address the vulnerabilities and weaknesses that the crisis has led to.
He stressed the importance of sharing experiences, saying that the Arab region is still suffering from the largest food gap in the world and indicators of multi-dimensional poverty are on a steady rise.
He also pointed to the consequences of the disaster that befell Lebanon's capital following the explosion of its port which imposed additional burdens on Lebanon‘s economic crisis.
He praised the Arab countries that took the initiative to provide the Lebanese people with the urgent humanitarian and medical aid. (ILKHA)
