The death toll of the flash floods in Afghanistan rises to 190
The death toll from the flash floods has risen to 190 in Afghanistan, said Ghulam Bahauddin Jilani, the Minister of Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority.
“At least 190 people have lost their lives, about 1055 houses were completely destroyed and 2960 other housing structures were partially damaged due to floods across the country,” Jilani said during a press conference on Tuesday.
“About 15 people are still missing and the body of a child was recovered from the mire on Monday evening in the Parwan province,” he added.
The fatalities came after a series of flash floods had hit Charikar, Parwan Provinces of Afghanistan over the past week.
The Ministry of Disaster Management has also reported some casualties and destruction of infrastructure in the provinces of Kapisa, Maidan Wardak, Nangarhar, Panjshir, and Paktia.
Recovery was complicated by the ongoing War in Afghanistan, as in some areas, delivering assistance was not possible due to fighting. (ILKHA)
