Turkish Coast Guard: 168 irregular migrants rescued off western Turkey
A total of 168 irregular migrants were rescued from inflatable boats in the Aegean Sea off the coast of Turkey’s western Çanakkale, Muğla and Izmir provinces, Turkish Coast Guard Command announced in a statement on Wednesday.
According to the statement, Greek Coast Guard forces pushed the inflatable boats carrying irregular migrants back to Turkish territorial waters.
Turkey has traditionally been a major transit port for irregular immigrants to enter the European countries.
According to the official reports, 454,662 irregular migrants held across the country in 2019. (ILKHA)
