Turkey’s unemployment rate decreases by 0.2% in April 2020 amid coronavirus pandemic
Turkey’s unemployment rate realized as 12.8% in Turkey’s unemployment rate realized as 12. April 2020, the country’s statistical institute announced in a statement on Friday.
According to the statement, the number of unemployed persons aged 15 years old and over decreased by 427 thousand to 3 million 775 thousand persons in the period of April 2020 in Turkey compared with the same period of the previous year.
The unemployment rate occurred as 12.8% with 0.2 percentage point decrease. Non-agricultural unemployment rate occurred as 14.9% with 0.1 percentage point decrease.
Employment rate realized as 41.1%
The number of employed persons decreased by 2 million 585 thousand to 25 million 614 thousand persons in the period of April 2020 compared with the same period of the previous year. The employment rate occurred as 41.1% with 4.9 percentage point decrease.
While the number of agricultural employment decreased by 491 thousand persons, industry decreased by 209 thousand persons, construction decreased by 361 thousand persons and services decreased by 1 million 524 thousand persons. According to the distribution of employment by sector; 17.5% was employed in agriculture, 20.9% was employed in industry, 4.9% was employed in construction and 56.7% was employed in services.
Labor force participation rate realized as 47.2%
The number of persons in the labor force realized 29 million 388 thousand persons with 3 million 13 thousand persons decrease in the period of April 2020 compared with the same period of the previous year. Labor force participation rate (LFPR) was 47.2% with 5.7 percentage point decrease.
The rate of unregistered employment realized as 28.7%
The ratio of persons working without any social security relating to the main job occurred 28.7% with 5.5 percentage point decrease in the period of April 2020 compared with the same period of the previous year. The rate of unregistered employment realized as 17.3% with 5.8 percentage point decrease in the non-agricultural sector compared to the same period of the previous year.
For 15-64 age group, unemployment rate realized as 13.1% and employment rate realized as 45.5%
For the 15-64 age group, the unemployment rate occurred as 13.1% with 0.2 percentage point decrease and non-agricultural unemployment rate occurred as 15.0% with 0.1 percentage point decrease compared to the same period of the previous year. In this age group, employment rate occurred as 45.5% with 5.1 percentage point decrease and labor force participation rate occurred as 52.4% with 6 percentage point decrease.
Youth unemployment rate realized as 24.4%, employment rate realized as 26.1%
The youth unemployment rate between aged 15-24 years realized as 24.4% with 1.2 percentage point increase and the youth employment rate realized as 26.1% with 7.0 percentage point decrease compared with the same period of the previous year. In the same period, labor force participation rate realized as 34.5% with 8.6 percentage point decrease. The rate of neither in employment nor in education realized as 29.1% with 5.7 percentage point increase compared with the same period of the previous year.
Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate realized as 13.8%, employment rate realized as 41.0%
Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate realized as 13.8% with 0.7 percentage point increase. The number of unemployed persons increased by 76 thousand to 4 million 80 thousand persons.
Seasonally adjusted employment rate realized as 41.0% with 1.6 percentage point decrease. The number of employed persons estimated as 25 million 541 thousand persons with 968 thousand persons decrease compared with the same period of the previous year.
Seasonally adjusted labour force participation rate was 47.5% with 1.5 percentage point decrease. The number of labour force estimated as 29 million 620 thousand persons with 893 thousand persons decrease.
According to the seasonally adjusted number of employment by sectors, employment in agriculture decreased by 34 thousand persons, industry decreased by 164 thousand persons, construction decreased by 123 thousand persons and services decreased by 647 thousand persons. (ILKHA)
