Brazil’s death toll from coronavirus reaches 47,869
Brazil have reported 1,238 new deaths from coronavirus over the past 24 hours, bringing the country’s death toll from the virus to 47,869.
The number of confirmed cases has reached 983,359, an increase of 23,050 cases in the last 24 hours.
Brazil became the country with the second-highest number of coronavirus-related deaths in the world on Saturday, surpassing the death toll of the United Kingdom.
Brazil also ranks second in the world in terms of total cases, behind the United States.
While at least 8,318 patients are being treated in intensive care units, more than 520,360 patients suffering from coronavirus have been discharged from hospital after being cured.
According to the Health Ministry, the number of people cured of coronavirus is already 7.5% higher than the active cases in the country.
Sao Paulo, the country’s most-populated state, continues to be the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic in Brazil. The state has so far reported more than 180,782 confirmed coronavirus cases, with at least 11,846 deaths. (ILKHA)
