Brazil reports 1,209 new deaths from coronavirus
Brazil have reported 1,209 new deaths from coronavirus over the past 24 hours, bringing the country’s death toll from the virus to 46,665.
The number of confirmed cases has reached 960,309, an increase of 31,475 cases in the last 24 hours.
Brazil became the country with the second-highest number of coronavirus-related deaths in the world on Saturday, surpassing the death toll of the United Kingdom.
Brazil also ranks second in the world in terms of total cases, behind the United States.
While at least 8,318 patients are being treated in intensive care units, more than 503,507 patients suffering from coronavirus have been discharged from hospital after being cured.
Sao Paulo, the country’s most-populated state, continues to be the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic in Brazil. The state has recorded 389 deaths from coronavirus in the last 24 hours — the highest number since the beginning of the pandemic. The previous record was 365 victims of the new coronavirus, recorded yesterday. In all, the state has so far reported more than 178,130 confirmed coronavirus cases, with at least 10,694 deaths.
