Floods kill at least 116 people in Kenya
Ongoing floods have so far killed at least 116 people and displaced more than 100,000 families in Kenya.
“So far we have lot 116 lives in different parts of the country and over 100,000 households affected by the floods. Rains continue to pound; people will have to keep moving to safer grounds as the rains will continue into May,” said Eugene L. Wamalwa, Kenya's Ministry of Devolution and ASALs.
“We have put measures in place to support families affected by floods. Even as we give food donations, we must adhere to Covid-19 guidelines to ensure we do not expose the victims. Counties response teams must follow protocols,” he noted.
He stated 40 000 bags of rice have been provided to the afflicted counties, adding that all counties have set up an emergency unit to help manage the issues. (ILKHA)
