Italy’s death toll from coronavirus rises to 24,648
The death toll is rising in Italy, which has the highest number deaths due to coronavirus in Europe, while the country is struggling to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the Health Ministry, 534 people who tested positive for coronavirus have lost their lives in the past 24 hours, bringing the country’s death toll from the virus to 24,648.
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases have so far been 183,957 in the country. However, the number of people tested positive for coronavirus in Italy has fallen for the first time since the country's outbreak began.
Until now, 51.600 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital.
On 19 March, Italy became the country with the highest number of confirmed coronavirus deaths in the world, but on 11 April it was overtaken by the United States. The country has now the third-highest number of Covid-19 cases in the world after Spain and the US. (ILKHA)
