Turkey to send medical equipment to the United Kingdom amid coronavirus pandemic
The United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government Robert Jenrick has announced that a consignment of personal protective equipment (PPE) for health workers is due to arrive in the country from Turkey on Sunday.
“It amounts merely 84 tons of PPE, including 400,000 gowns so have very significant additional shipment,” he said.
There have been warnings in the country that some hospitals' intensive care units could run out of gowns this weekend.
On the other hand, Department of Health and Social Care said that 250,000 items of medical equipment had arrived in the U.K.
“Following an agreement between the UK and Turkey 250,000 items of personal protective equipment including N-95 face masks, surgical masks and protective suits for the NHS arrived RAF Brize Norton for distribution to medical centers across the country,” it tweeted on Saturday.
The United Kingdom has until now reported more than 114,000 confirmed coronavirus cases, with 15,464 deaths. (ILKHA)
