Italy coronavirus: The number of deaths reaches 17,127
604 new deaths from coronavirus in the past 24 hours in Italy have increased the country’s death toll from the virus to 17,127, the Civil Protection Agency said on Tuesday.
The total of confirmed cases rose by 3,039 on Tuesday to 135,586, marking a decrease at the rise of infections compared to 3,599 new cases on Monday.
24,392 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital after being cured in the country.
Until now, 755,445 tests for the virus have been conducted in Italy.
Italy is one of the world's centers of active coronavirus cases. Due to the finite number of tests performed, the real number of infected people in Italy, as in other countries, is estimated to be higher than the official count.
On 19 March, Italy became the country with the highest number of confirmed coronavirus deaths in the world. (ILKHA)
