Erdoğan-Putin meeting

About the Erdoğan-Putin meeting in Moscow, Sağlam said: "The ceasefire agreement that Erdoğan and Putin reached in Moscow is important for the safety of the civilians in Syria. The fact that it was once again returned to the negotiating table after the recent conflicts and tensions has once again shown that military methods are not the solution in Syria. The summit's decisions on a humanitarian corridor, the delivery of humanitarian aid to all those in need without discrimination and the support of a political solution are promising for the end of the Civil War in Syria."

"Considering the fact that the ceasefires have been broken 13 times before in the region, the guarantor countries should be very careful in order to maintain the ceasefire," Sağlam warned.

Standing by their commitment, the guarantor countries should act in accordance with the agreement to make the ceasefire permanent, to ensure the return of migrants and the delivery of humanitarian aid to all those in need without discrimination. The ceasefire process should be used for the resumption of political negotiations in the country, the political solution should be taken as a basis by excluding military solutions and the work of drafting a new constitution should be accelerated.

 EU migration policy

Drawing attention the plight of irregular migrant during their journey to European countries, Sağlam said: "The migrants who had to take refuge in European countries have been exposed to maltreatment and racist attacks. The European countries, which propagandize for civilization and human rights around the world, incited the racist attacks, causing the deaths of many migrants. In some European countries, those who rescued migrants have been even punished. Greece is resorting to violence, even sometimes shooting them dead, to stop the migrants who want to go European countries at the moment."

He went on to say: "The failure to impose a legal sanction on Greek authorities who commit crimes against humanity and violate the right to life reveals the UN's dysfunctionality and hypocritical policies on human rights. For the migrants, who face the plights such as death, maltreatment, hungry and diseases during their journey, all international institutions should take action in order to secure the political and economic stability of the sending countries. Migrants travelling to death in hopes of prosperity should not be left at the mercy of right-wing populist governments, and all regime engaging in torture should be tried by the International Criminal Court."

The agreement between Taliban and the U.S. in Afghanistan

Touching on The agreement between Taliban and the U.S. in Afghanistan, Sağlam stated: "With the agreement between Taliban and the U.S that signed in Doha, the capital of Qatar, the United States agreed to reduce its number of soldiers in the country from 12,000 to 8,600 within 135 days. If the Taliban follows through on its commitments, all U.S. and other foreign troops will leave Afghanistan within fourteen months. Although the two-year-long and repeatedly sabotaged negotiations have resulted in an agreement in Afghanistan, the mutual attacks which were carried out immediately following the agreement show that the parties have not fulfilled their responsibilities for the peace envisioned for Afghanistan.

He concluded as follows: "The US administration, which has promised to withdraw troops from Iraq and Afghanistan since the Obama era, has increased the number of its troops in the country and carried out attacks that have deepened instability. Tens of thousands of civilians have been killed in US attacks in Afghanistan since the invasion began in 2001, and the country's regime has become politically and militarily dependent. It does not seem possible for the United States to fulfill its responsibilities in accordance with the agreement in the future. In this respect, the Afghan government and the Taliban should first establish internal peace and declare a mutual ceasefire in order to stabilize the country. If internal peace is not achieved, it will not be possible to prevent instability and foreign intervention." (ILKHA)
