Death toll from coronavirus outbreak rises to 107 in Iran
The death toll from the coronavirus outbreak has risen to 107 with 3,513 confirmed cases, Iran’s Health Ministry Spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour said on Thursday.
The novel coronavirus outbreak has so far killed 107 people. 3,513 people were diagnosed with the new virus since its outbreak in Iran.
A growing number of infections are being reported in Gilan, Qom, and Tehran provinces of the country.
He said that 739 patients infected by the coronavirus recovered from the disease.
The country closed schools and universities until 20 March because of coronavirus.
On 30 January 2020, following confirmation of human-to-human transmission outside China and the increase in number of cases in other countries, the WHO declared the outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC), the sixth PHEIC since the measure was first invoked during the 2009 swine flu pandemic. The outbreak has claimed the lives of 3,310 people with 96,261 confirmed cases across the world. (ILKHA)
