Greek Deputy tearing Turkish flag faces severe backlash
Greek lawmaker Ioannis Lagos tore up the Turkish flag in the European Parliament, prompting a huge backlash from Turkey.
In a statement on Twitter, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on Thursday condemned a far-right Greek lawmaker after tore up a Turkish flag during a debate in the European Parliament.
"These racist minds know better than anybody how we crash and kick out to the sea those who dare attack our glorious flag. Europe’s spoiled and racist children should know their place. Europe must put an end to racism and animosity against Islam," he said.
He added that nobody should doubt that Turkish flag would continue to wave proudly forever, urging European Parliament to take necessary measures against Greek lawmaker.
Justice and Development (AK) Party spokesperson Omer Çelik also slammed Greek lawmaker in a statement posted on Twitter. (ILKHA)
