Sweden grants citizenship to more than 27 thousand Syrians in 2019
Sweden welcomed a total of 74,924 new citizens, including more than 27 thousand Syrians, over the course of the year.
4,300 English were also among those granted Swedish citizenship in 2019.
That is an increase from the previous year, when 63,818 people became Swedish.
As the new year began, 98,107 people were awaiting a decision on their citizenship application.
The number of people becoming Swedish citizens has soared over the past decade. In 2010, a total of 28,100 people were granted citizenship, a figure which reached a peak of 65,562 in 2017 and was 61,312 last year. (ILKHA)
