Protests against Citizenship Bill become violent in India
The massive protests in many parts of north-east India against the Citizenship Bill have become violent yesterday and are starting to escalate again today, the reports said.
Protests in India's northeast region, particularly in Tripura, Assam, against Citizenship Bill are intensifying. As reported Army deployed in Tripura and standby in Assam.
The legislation would grant citizenship to so-called persecuted Hindus and other religious minorities from Muslim-majority Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
Through this bill, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindu nationalist government is trying to divide the country on the basis of religion. (ILKHA)
