Germany seeks to ban headscarf in primary schools
Germany is seeking to ban the use of headscarves in primary schools following the adoption of the bill banning the headscarf in primary schools in the Austrian Parliament.
Following the decision of the Austrian Parliament for headscarf ban on primary school students, Germany is preparing to ban headscarves in primary schools.
Minister of State for Immigration and Integration Annette Widmann-Mauz also stated that the headscarf ban against primary school students should be on the agenda in Germany.
"Little girls wearing headscarves is bullshit," she said while criticized by rights activists around the world. "All measures need to be considered and implemented, from dialogue with families to the ban."
Also criticizing remarks of Widmann-Mauz, Christian Unity Parties (CDU) Family Policy Spokesperson of the Federal Assembly Group Marcus Weinberg noted a general ban on a headscarf like in Austria is a very critical issue according to Germany laws.
"When we say that we will protect children who are forced to cover their head, unfairness will emerge for girls who cover their heads voluntarily. Everyone is guaranteed in our Federal Constitution to live their religious faith freely," he added.
There are about 5 million Muslims in Germany. Mostly Turkish, Muslims consist of 6% of the population. (ILKHA)
