Most of Tripoli Airport in Libya was said controlling by the government forces.

Government forces launched a counter-attack on Wednesday against Khalifa Hafter forces, who are backed by the US and some European countries, and they were able to deflect Hafter's forces, thus taking control of most of the airport.

General Khalifa Hafter, the leader of the military forces in eastern Libya, launched an attack on April 4 to take over the capital, Tripoli. Conflicts between the National Consensus Government and Hafter's forces have been continuing for more than a month.

In the meantime, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) said they welcomed the call of the European Union Foreign Relations Council for a ceasefire in Libya.

UNSMIL stressed that attacks on Tripoli and sustaining violence are not only threatening the UN peace talks in Libya, but also a threat to international peace.

The UN has welcomed the EU's call for a ceasefire in a coordinated manner with the United Nations in Libya, noting that the non-discrimination among civilians and warring sides would lead to war crimes. (ILKHA)
