Arson attack causes major damage in mosque in the US

Officials announced that the fire was intentionally set at the Diyanet Mosque in the city ​​of New Haven, Connecticut, in the US. The mosque was reportedly still under construction.

As a result of initial investigations, the incident reportedly was carried out as an arson attack while an investigation was underway.

The fire started as a result of arson at the entrance of the mosque and reached the third floor.  

Damage occurred at a large part of the building especially during the extinguishment of the fire while tons of water was used at the unburned parts of the mosque.

"Fire at New Heaven mosque was intentionally set," said New Haven Fire Chief John Alston while indicated that the fire had been caused by sabotage.

Visiting the mosque after the fire in New Haven, which caused material losses while no one has been hurt, the president of the American Center for Religious Affairs Fatih Kanca said material damage of the mosque will be compensated as soon as possible.

Also that month, the Muhammad Islamic Center of Greater Hartford received a phone call from someone who threatened to burn it down, the authorities said. The person used racial slurs in the call, according to an imam at the center. (ILKHA)
