Algerian President Bouteflika resigns
President Abdul-Aziz Bouteflika, who announced that he would leave office before April 28, resigned after the statement of the chief of staff.
Algerian official news agency APS has announced the resignation of President Abdul-Aziz Bouteflika on Wednesday.
Algerian Chief of General Staff Ahmed Gaed Salah said in a statement that President Abdul-Aziz Bouteflika was not fit to sit more in his seat.
Salah said he was siding on the same line with protesters who asked the 82-year-old ill president to leave his post as soon as possible in protests for weeks.
Bouteflika, who announced that he would leave the post before April 28, resigned after the statements made by the chief of General Staff.
In Algeria, presidential elections were planned on April 18. However, Bouteflika announced on March 11, that it had postponed the elections, withdrawn its candidacy and that there would be comprehensive changes in the government. (ILKHA)
