Mohammed Veurab, the representative of the Algerian Movement for Society for Peace, made important statements to ILKHA's correspondent on the bid of Abdel Aziz Bouteflika to run the presidency for the fifth term.

"The people who are opposed to the President's fifth term of candidacy have taken streets. The people of Algeria know what will happen to the presidential elections on the 18th of April," Veurab said.

Stating that some want the current president Abdel Aziz Bouteflika to be re-elected also in this election, Veurab underlined that the current president has health problems and can do nothing.

"He is being treated at a hospital in Geneva, Switzerland. When he applied for the nomination again, people took the streets to put an end to this madness.

"Those who want to make him president again, want to inflict him upon Algerians who cannot even help himself. However, people rejected this. For two weeks, the walks have been running continuously."

Saying that they expect great marches on Friday, Veurab noted that the reason is that the weekend in Algeria is Friday. "On Friday, the rallies take place with the great crowds coming out of all the masjids. People say that whatever happens, we do not want him for the fifth term."

"So far the government has not made a statement," he said underlining that "they still want to maneuver and save time."

"But the people are overwhelmed. The marches are carried out in a very wonderful and orderly way. We can say that there are almost no injuries and problems. The security forces are moving in a way that is compatible with the activists," he noted.

"The most powerful Islamic movement in Algeria is the Movement for Society for Peace," he said, referring to the Movement for Society for Peace attitude towards these walks.

"We show that the political process is democratic, and the nomination of a president in such a situation shows that there is no democracy here. It is already clear that there will be fraud in the election. We have officially participated in actions and marches, we will continue to demonstrate, and we have turned away from being a part of this political policy. This is the stance of the Movement."

"We name the '102 Friday' for the march to be held this Friday"

Veurab stated that they received support from other political parties in the country. "Many institutions in Algeria stood next to us after they have realized our clear stance."

Noting that they want to activate Article 102 in the Constitution, Veurab said Abdul-Aziz Bouteflika's illness appears to be a great emptiness for the presidency.

"We named the '102 Friday' for the march to be held this Friday. This article clearly includes the suspension of elections and the postponement of elections after three months."

"A new electoral process is required after the president has been dismissed due to illness. This is the most important thing in the demands of the people. The people did not revolve in order to resolve their grievances, but they did revolve in order to establish a new order and to prevent the presidential nomination for the fifth term."

"The people want a democratic presidency. They want to have the right to elect, they want to elect whoever is better economically, politically and socially for the country. According to the Algerian people, the state must be able to prevent external threats."

"As far as we can see from the press sources, many European states are talking about these marches, and we are not talking about the fall of the government. We want these walks to develop in a peaceful political air. We want a president who is worthy of Algeria." (ILKHA)
