US Election: Democrats hold the house, Republicans keep Senate

Voters in the United States went to the polls on Tuesday for 35 seats in the Senate and 435 seats in the House of Representatives.

According to unofficial results, the majority in the Senate remained in the Republicans, while the Democrats captured the majority in the House of Representatives eight years later. The Republicans won 51 seats in the Senate, while the Democrats have 41 seats and in the House of Representatives, Democrats gained 219 seats while the Republicans have 193 seats.

In the US mid-term elections, Palestinian descent Rashida Tlaib and Somali origin Ilhan Omar were elected as members of the House of Representatives and became the first female Muslim member of the US Congress.
