Voters in the United States went to the polls on Tuesday for 35 seats in the Senate and 435 seats in the House of Representatives.

According to unofficial results, the majority in the Senate remained in the Republicans, while the Democrats captured the majority in the House of Representatives eight years later. The Republicans won 51 seats in the Senate, while the Democrats have 41 seats and in the House of Representatives, Democrats gained 219 seats while the Republicans have 193 seats.

For the first time in the US, two Muslim women elected as members of the House of Representatives

In the US mid-term elections, Palestinian descent Rashida Tlaib and Somali origin Ilhan Omar were elected as members of the House of Representatives and became the first female Muslim member of the US Congress.

The two Muslim women candidates, the Palestinian descent Rashida Tlaib 42, and Somali descent Ilhan Omar 36, were elected members of the House of Representatives from Michigan and Minnesota. According to these results, Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar became the first female Muslim members of the US Congress.
