Strong winds and rains have taken more than 30 lives in Italy this week. At least 12 people lost their lives, 9 from the same family, due to the flooding of a river in the city of Palermo, the capital of Sicily.

The Italian Civil Defense Agency has announced that the number of deaths due to bad weather is 17, excluding deaths in Sicily.

An 87-year-old woman and a 62-year-old German tourist died last Friday as a result of a lightning strike in Sardinia.

Two people, aged 74 and 73, died as a result of the storm when a tree fell on their vehicle in the Aosta Valley northwest of Italy.

Italy has been devastated due to excessive rainfall and storms that have been flooding for several days. Millions of trees have been torn by their roots due to the storm and flood. Due to damage to the roads, many regions, especially rural areas, cannot be reached.

Trentino and the northern areas of Venetia are among the most affected areas by floods and storms.

The governor of Veneto said on Saturday that the storm and flood in the region caused at least 1 billion euros in damage.

The bad weather wave is said to be the worst meteorological disaster in the country in the last 60 years. (ILKHA)
