Three countries agreed on a new constitution in Syria
Turkiye, Russia, and Iran agreed to speed up efforts to establish the Constitutional Committee in Syria.
During the transition process after the seven-year civil war in Syria, the Constitutional Committee, which will write the new constitution and take the country to the elections, was agreed by the three countries to be established as soon as possible.
Turkiye, Russia, and Iran have agreed to accelerate efforts to establish the Constitutional Committee in Syria in a coordinated manner with the special representative of the United Nations to Syria.
The Russian foreign minister noted "The effective nature of cooperation between three guarantor countries, which has helped significantly to reduce global violence, and to improve the humanitarian situation in Syria."
"As for the political process, [the diplomats] noted the importance of the soonest formation and coordination of the Syrian constitutional committee's representative composition, which would be acceptable to the Syrian sides and which would allow for the soonest launch of this institution in Geneva in accordance with the decisions of the Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Sochi and UN Security Council resolution 2254," the ministry informed.
Call on UN Syria Special Representative from 7 countries
At the end of last month, the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan called for the establishment of the Syrian Constitutional Committee as soon as possible of the UN Special Representative for Syria, Staffan de Mistura.
In a joint statement of the foreign ministers of these countries, the implementation of the "inclusive" constitutional committee will begin to work on a new constitution in Syria and prepare the ground for elections under the auspices of the UN. (ILKHA)
