US sanctions China for buying Russian S-400
China, which purchased the S-400 air defense system from Russia, was sanctioned by the US, while Beijing and Moscow reacted to the decision.
The US has decided to impose sanctions on China, which has purchased the S-400 air defense system from Russia. The US State Department said the sanctions are for China's 10 Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets purchased in 2017 and S-400 missiles purchased in 2018.
Moscow and Beijing have reacted to the sanction decision imposed by the US. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Serguei Riabkov said the US threatened the stability of the world and added that Washington is "playing with fire".
China, on the other hand, called on the United States to withdraw the sanctions, saying that Washington would have to bear the consequences.
"We hope that this step will show our seriousness and other countries will think twice about Russia's defense and intelligence commitments," a US official said.
The US, with a law adopted by 2017, can make sanctions against the countries it considers against itself. (ILKHA)
