A military solution in Idlib would be catastrophic: Çavuşoğlu
Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu stated that more than 3 million civilians living in Syria's İdlib district, warning that a military solution would be a catastrophe.
Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov had a press conference after the meeting in Moscow, on the steps that will be taken on Syria's Idlib region.
Stating that the armed groups from out have joined the city, Çavuşoğlu said: "All the terror organizations are same for us. Have to fight with all of them. On the other hand, a military solution will be a catastrophe here. These [terror organizations] first are threats for us. Among them, there are foreign fighters. It will be a catastrophe not only for the İdlib region but also for the future of Syria."
Lavrov also used the following expressions:
"Idlib is a multi-faceted problem. There are thousands of militants recruited by Hayat-Tahrir al-Sham and Nusra. They are currently using it as a human shield. They are trying to take control of the region and prevent the separation efforts of Turkiye between armed groups and these organizations. They constantly attack from here to Russian bases, and we need to minimize the risks for civilians, which are part of our negotiations." (ILKHA)
