The UK Information Commission (ICO) has launched an investigation to examine in detail the allegations regarding the improper use of personal data of 50 million users on the social media platform Facebook.

British Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham said she was investigating Cambridge Analytica for allegations that US presidential elections were being manipulated using personal data. Demanding access to the company's database and network servers, Denham said she wanted to know how Cambridge Analytica "operated or how to erase data."

Although Cambridge Analytica maintained that they were following the correct procedures for collecting data, Facebook had suspended the company's operations last week.

Former employee Christopher Wylie said that through a form designed by an academic and asked for personal information on Facebook, Cambridge Analytica collected millions of people's data.

In the secret camera footage of British Channel 4 news yesterday, some executives of the company were seen to say that "love traps" could be prepared and bribed in order to shake the politicians'.

The images showed that Cambridge Analytica Chairman Alexander Nix said he is running secret election campaigns with the company around the world. (ILKHA)
