The Iraqi government has announced that the occupation, civil wars, and conflicts that have been taking place in the country for years have brought about a great destruction and that the basic infrastructure and the estimated cost of rebuilding the destroyed buildings are $ 88 billion.

Undersecretary of the Iraqi Planning Ministry, Qusay Adulfattah emphasized that 22 billion dollars will be needed in the short term and 65 billion dollars in the middle and long-term for reconstruction. Especially the residential sector is the most urgently needed area.

Due to the air bombings of the US-led coalition, most of the houses in Mosul have either been completely destroyed or become unusable. It is stated that Mosul is damaged only in the old city section where 35 thousand houses damaged and 11 thousand 500 houses have been destroyed. It is said that bodies of thousands of people in Mosul still are under the destroyed houses after the US-led coalition bombardments. Same in Felluce, it is stated that 40 thousand houses are either completely destroyed or become unusable. (ILKHA)
